Hi, all. Been a long time since I posted anything.

Here's some character development designs for my comic Squad - Addie and Johansson. Addie's a she-goat and Johansson is a little dog based upon a Yorkshire terrier. Fun new characters keep popping into the universe of Squad as the story/backstory gets developed, and I'm having a real blast fleshing them out in design. There's something magical about seeing characters you create solidify before your very eyes.

Back in her old infantry unit, Phyllis (the cat in the middle) had known this motley pair who were the only two souls in the entire barracks to consider her their chum. Rejected by everyone, the three friends formed a clique of their own for mutual protection. After a promotion to sergeant, Phyllis had lost contact with them during a separate campaign. Believed to be KIA, she never heard from them again.

Is this at all related to the Shades of Red comic you did a while back? The dog on the right is the same character right?

You're very observant to notice the similarities. =D No, Johansson is not the same character as the one in Shades of Red. I used the same character design elements for Johansson. Though it never appeared in the comic itself, that character's name is actually Cuan.

I've had Squad on my mind ever since then, and I did Shades of Red as a sort of 'pliot episode' to get a direction of things for Squad. But I suppose they can be made to exist in the same universe, with some clever writing.

No problem. Shades of Red was epic. I am deeply moved if a story can be told by image alone and every time I 'read' that comic I feel very sad for your nameless character. I know he's going to die but every time I don't want him to. Image has enormous power. It's one of the things I strive to do myself.

I'll be watching for new instalments to this little universe.
