Midnight Party by joulester Midnight Party by joulester
Bored with college parties, a group of scrappy youths who are eager for more serious excitement take to their powerful custom rides. Along the way, they invite several local law enforcers for some high-octane late-night spree!

This painting is a mishmash of essences from several great works that have inspired me over the years - the feel-good and high spirited works of Hayao Miyazaki, the emotion and adrenaline of Oban Star Racers, the humor and rather-comical violence of Judge Dredd. All fueled by Final Fantasy 7's 'crazy motorcycle chase' music.

The police vehicle itself is inspired by real-life, modern day security vehicle designs from Carbon Motors and the Dartz Kombat. I thought these were very cool for production level cars.

Cheers!

Amazing scene,
I love this kind of craziness; high energy, with all the things going everywhere and bits of absurd comedy mixed into it.
Really great work.

Wow, this is something else...like selected themes of Mad Max, biker punks from the Akira manga and the toony drawn youths from the Gorillaz albums rolled in one! So much to comment on but my fav is one-toothed yokel in the gyro-chopter with a sniper rifle....hahaaa.

:aww: Thank you! =D Yes you got it all right! I was inspired by the works of Jamie Hewlett, in particular Gorillaz and wanted to do something with similar rhythm and pace. Haha glad that the old grandpa in the gyrocopter managed to tickle you some =D He was kind of a last minute add-on when I was trying to think of more ways to make this more zany.

Thanks for the awesome comment!

Your welcome, I have to admit I still think the best parts are a tie between the redneck in the upper left and the girl in the lower right with the 'guns for foo's" book. I also agree with a earlier poster you deserve DD for this one absolutely.

i kinda surprised that your machinable design are much more solid and more square, compare to your more loss and organic older works, which i thinks it good that can see your style are evolving.

ease down ripley, you broke the trans axle, ease down LOL

Yeah, i'd say that this geometric style vehicle designs that I've been adopting lately is prompted by some digital painting techniques that I've been learning from others and developing myself.

I'm learning to appreciate the squarish look more and more, especially in realizing that it takes a certain degree of art muscle strength and discipline to carry them out. Now, when I look at your own mecha paintings and drawings and think about your ability to do such detailed and precision, I feel a much deeper respect.

come to think of it, all your recent works are very much geometrically solid, but still maintain your iconic over kill set-up, by the way do have any tutorial that u use for your work, i was training myself to improve my conceptual panting skills.

Lastly have your heard of the newly release Aliens colonial marines game, A direct link to after the event of the 2nd aliens, a lot of hope and excitement are expected from the fans, the demo game they show was really good, and can over mount flame thrower and pulse rifle on the power loader [link] how cool was that, and the environment was outstanding, you literally feels like you are in aliens world. but when the actual release came, people are disappointed as what they have been promise was not deliver and this guy name angry joe pointed out some points [link]

Oh man, that's really too bad about the game. The way the guy review it, it makes the game seem really not worthwhile to get. It looks so good and promising in the youtube video. Playing as a colonial marine from Aliens is freaking awesome!

Well, I don't specifically follow a tutorial or video yet, but I've been looking at many different artworks constantly for inspiration and lessons. I did follow FZD's (FengZhu) tutorials on youtube once, though. If you look in my favourites section in dA I've compiled a number of different peoples' artworks which are useful to me into two folders, named 'Tutorials' and 'Art styles'. In fact, if you got the time, browse through all my favourites. These are what spark my inspiration. I hope it helps. Will let you know if I find any specifically good ones in future.

yeah, i do still maintain my over-done, overkill style =P I guess I overcame my traditional believe that organic designs are the best and only. I do still think up organic shapes, except I don't draw them as 'cincai' as I did before. I feel that's a waste.

Dude, you have to check this out, this guy actually recorded the entire Aliens Colonial Marines Game play, a total of 10 videos in [link] i know the game sux, but the environment design of the follow up was really good, you can really feel you are in james cameron's world of aliens, and the games expanded so well, i know the game and the story still sux, u will be damn surprised when you watch the second last video, something that i myself like WTF!!!! how can he be alive, go check it out, worth it seeing it but not worth buying the game.

Woa it's one darn long video - it's going to eat into my internet prepaid credit, haha. I watched the first 5 minutes, though. Good to be able to see the inside of the Sulaco for sure. From the video, the gameplay looks kind of choppy, animation's not so impressive either, but then again, it's youtube video. Wish the guy didn't talk so much! All I can say for now is that the Sulaco interior is refreshing. I'll watch the rest at a later time.
